Overview of this Adventure

Looking to join a small group of like-minded travelers in one of the most up-and-coming destinations in the world today?

Then join us in Colombia!

This adventure gives participants access to some of the most incredible people, landscapes, villages, cities, food, and wildlife that Colombia has to offer.

You’ll start in the seaside town of Cartagena, located on Colombia’s coast, where participants will get a first-hand sense of the crossover of indigenous and Afro-Colombian cultures.  This can be experienced in the food, architecture, customs and people who live in this far northern part of the country.

Participants will also have a chance to explore the very colorful Getsemani neighborhood of Cartagena, which is full of restaurants, bars, outdoor cafes, small plazas and plenty of shops, as well as tour and have lunch at the famous Bazurto Market, said to be one of Anthony Bourdain’s favorites.

Finally, there’ll be a sunset boat cruise on the last evening that promises to be a truly memorable evening.

Next, participants will take a short included flight to the “city of eternal spring,” Medellín.

A sprawling metropolis that is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations in all of South America, Medellín offers so much, and you’ll enjoy a locally-guided city tour that highlights its architecture as well as some of Colombian artist Botero’s incredibly unique sculptures.

You’ll also have an opportunity to visit a private finca, or farm, owned by a woman who’ll prepare the most unforgettable organic lunch for our group, as well as visit Comuna 13 (see video at link), once considered the most dangerous neighborhood in all of Colombia, but one that has now been completely transformed into a public art gallery that is perfectly safe for visitors.

After Medellín the group will take an included flight to the town of Pereira in order to spend time at a gorgeous hotel wonderfully situated in the heart of Colombia’s coffee region.  Here you’ll not only get to explore the surrounding area and learn about the process of coffee and cacao production, but you’ll also have plenty of time to enjoy this amazing property which comes complete with swimming pool, spa services and more.

Finally, participants end up in Cali, another of Colombia’s cities that is transforming into a cultural and foodie destination like few others, and where you’ll stay at yet another incredible boutique hotel called Araucana Lodge that is owned and operated by the third generation of a prominent local family, and one that is in the ideal location to witness and photograph some of the most beautiful and unique birds and other wildlife you’ll ever see.  Not only that, participants will be able to tour the property which grows the vast majority of its own organic produce.

While in this area there’ll also be an optional excursion to nearby San Cipriano where participants can choose to ride la brujita, the most unique “train” you’ve ever seen, and one that’ll take you to a small, riverside village situated in the Reserva Forestal de San Cipriano. Special Note: this experience may not be for everyone and is completely optional and does require an extra fee to participate.

At the end of the trip you’ll spend one night in the city of Cali, in the historic neighborhood of San Antonio where you’ll have both a food and cultural experience you won’t soon forget.

About This Itinerary

This tour is limited to just 6 – 10 participants.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You’ll want to wear good, sturdy walking shoes throughout this experience as the properties where we’re staying and the other locations we’ll be visiting are often made up of hilly terrain, sometimes with a number of stairs, inclines, declines and at times gravel and occasionally rough dirt and stone paths.

If you are even slightly unsure of your walking capability in these conditions it’s HIGHLY recommended that you purchase a quality set of telescoping walking sticks at your local outdoor supply store or online before arriving in country.

Here’s a link to a quality trekking pole set that comes highly recommended with over 7,700 5-star reviews on Amazon.

About Your Flight to Cartagena

Only after having been given the go ahead by PEA administrators, please try to arrange your flight to Cartagena (CTG) to arrive by 4 pm local time. All participants will have an airport transfer included on arrival that will take you directly to our hotel.

Regarding Your Flight Home

Flights can be arranged at any time on the last day of this trip and your airport transfer will be included (please don’t make any non-refundable travel arrangements until given the go ahead by PEA administrators).

You can certainly choose to stay over in this area or move on to other parts of the region to enjoy the many other things to do, or transfer on your own to other parts of Colombia or South America to continue your experience, but please arrange these additional services on your own.

We wish you safe travels and happy memories of what will surely be an unforgettable trip!
